This song is the result of another conversation I had this week with an associate. She said "it's got walls but no ceiling". Eureka! The phrase was like lightning to my brain as excellent song material. (it often happens like this folks, where I hear a combination of words and my brain goes COOL WORDS - USE IN SONG). So I sat down to write it and it became a song about having safety and security, but also the ability to expand one's horizons. Kind of like parents who take care of you and also encourage you to follow your dreams, or a mate who you're totally in sync with but allows you to also follow your goals. Make sense? I think it could also be interpretted as God in away, too. The safety and support of God. The recording is heavy on vocals and harmonies for a change. Sounds pretty decent I think.

"Walls No Ceiling"

I need a song, to makie it through the day
I need you light, to illuminate my way
You need a place to call you own
I need a face, to gaze upon.

Give me walls, and no ceilings
I need walls, buut no ceilings

I need hope, with every thought I think today
I need you truth, to open up my way
I need a word, that is wise
I need support, to recognize the way

Give me walls, and no ceilings
I need walls, buut no ceilings

I need a song, to make it through this life
I need your sight, to shine on me today
You need a place, to call your own
I need a face, to gaze upon.

Give me walls, and no ceilings
I need walls, but no ceilings

I must be exposing myself to too much media lately. Here's another "commentary" type tune about media "pulling the wool" over our eyes. The recording turned out pretty decent. Nice drum sequencing. And a ton of reverb. You love it, don't you?

"Pull The Wool"

Hey what's that you're wearing?
Hey what's that you're saying?
The loop you keep rerunning tonight.
Oh yes we are believing
Though the story's so misleading.
With pixels, you sharpen your knife.

Pull the wool. We are the fool. Tonight.

Hey what's that you're yelling?
Oh the things that you are selling.
The piece we can't resist, all night
Oh yes we are buying
Though the products based on lying
What cheese, you slice with your knife.

Pull the wool. We are the fool. Tonight.

Hey what's this we're doing?
Consumer ourselves to ruin.
The stock we got a deal on - hold tight.
Oh yes we are so using
Though you're constantly abusing
Our minds, our money, and our right.

Pull the wool. We are the fool. Tonight.

"Red My Mind" - new free mp3 song

This song is about Starbucks. And James Blunt. It's my own take on his big hit song. You know the one. Only MY story ends mucho better AND my song isn't as annoying ;-). Or at least fair people, I'd like to think so.

"Red My Mind"

Coffee, coffee - oh how it wakes me up
But it did more than that that morning
When I stopped to get my big cup.
That's when I saw you standing
10 maybe 15 people ahead
Your eyes, your hair
So beautifully red

If that I could go hit on your right now...
Would you brush me off as just another fool?

Red, my mind. Has been stuck on you
Since I saw you standing in line, sometime, ago

Through a twist of fate, I found out who you were
A friend of a friend who had to confirm
Of your bizness, your coolness
And your current state of being
Single and succesful, that has a nice ring

Would you brush me off for just another fool?

Red, my mind. Has been stuck on you
Since I saw you standing in line, sublime, I know

So your emails and your number I finally get
But I guess I'm too shy, to go ahead and dial it
So type away is what I do and hit key send
"You've got mail" - and I hope you'll respond again

So now here we are passing notes back & forth
From the back of the class to the front of our course
Every few days, they come and they go
And I'd like to meet you,
And tell you how so...

How Red, my mind. Has been stuck on you
Since I saw you standing in line, sometime, ago

Coffee, morning coffee, oh how it shakes me up
But it did more thatn that when I stopped
For that latte cup
For I saw you waiting in line
And now you're locked in my mind
The girl in the coffee shop, with red hair, so fine.
