"War" Quote by Karl Kraus

Funny coindence in this weeks song and this little Quote that came across my email yesterday. Thought I would share it with you: "War, at first, is the hope that one will be better off; next, the expectation that the other fellow will be worse off; then, the satisfaction that he isn't any better off; and, finally, the surprise at everyone's being worse off." - Karl Kraus

This week your pleasure is a slick little drum sequenced song with bass, and no guitar, plus vocals and effects galore. It's cool and hip and about not starting a War with that crazy person or country you became aquainted with. You know you know what I mean! Also the studio song of the week is "Consider Yourself Lucky" from Atomsplit off MicroStar.

"War With You"

"Wake up sometimes, In a state of Mind
Wishing it, weren't true.
Fired up Real Bad, Yet Truely Sad
Passively Mad, at You.

Yet I, would not start - A War with You.
I am afraid of what you'd do.

Felt good sometimes, felt bad sometimes.
And sick sometimes, at You.
Colder now, yet true somehow.
This pain you put us through.

Yet I, would not start - A War with You.
I am afraid of what you'd do.
I could not wage a war with you.
Thought things have really changed
From what you do.

Try to sleep sometimes, but it's wasted time
This torturing I'm going through.
Yet in the end I know, How Karma goes
And just what will pull me through.

Yet I, would not start - A War with You.
I am afraid of what you'd do.
I could not wage a war with you.
Thought things have really changed
From what you do.

Ah, another slow song. Another bittersweet one. Somewhat about the "growing pains" of love and relationships. I really like the Chorus on this one. It's a simple live sounding recording with gentle singing. My Goodness, am I becoming a folk singer?

Recorded early in the morning. With the coffee shakes. I'm probably one of like 5 songwriters who likes to record before 10AM. Funny.

Also did a little web cam video cast of performing this one live in the home office. It's posted on YouTube.com here.

Also on this week's show is my old song "Set It Up" with the Sade ending and clean guitars. As recorded by the inklings. Couldn't get the Rome In Aday version dug out in time.

LYRICS:
"Toleration"
by D. Sazster

"Would you tolterate me?
I wold tolerate you.
Would you see me to my end?
Give you time to think it. Overnight.
Give you time to consider. What is right. For you.

This Toleration. Sweet Toleration.
This Toleration. Sweet Toleration.

Could you tolerate me?.
I could tolerate you.
Could you feel me through the miles.
Blanket around myself. Cushion beneath your soul.
The Stars blanket my mind tonight.

This Toleration. Sweet Toleration.
This Toleration. Sweet Toleration.

Should we tolerate this?
Cann we tolerate us?
Can we touch each other, tonight?
Sifting through Desert thoughts.
God knows a Billion I've got.
Grimacing in this pain, once again.

This Toleration. Sweet Toleration.
This Toleration. Sweet Toleration.

CLASSIC Atomsplit Live MP3s

I've just put up some CLASSIC old live Atomsplit tracks. These were recorded at the old Dotties in Atlanta in 2000. The band playing is the vintage original line up.
Here are the tunes in the order of the set (I think):
- Pedaling Back Words
- Finally Shook You
- Consider Yourself Lucky
- Ms September
- Where We Are
- StarChild
- Worse Than You
- Luv Triangular (THIS ROCKS)
- Tune in Tokyo / SO OVER YOU

This old photo is from that night too. Funny! Obviously we were trying our "average white boy" look.

New Podcast Episode and Song Online

Week 15, Song 15
"she can't help"

This past week found me fighting with a sore throat and working 12 hour days. Yet I still found time to pen this week’s heartbreaker. Sure, it was 3AM last night when I finished the lyrics. But hey? Who says insomnia can’t be a productive?

This is a slow song. A bittersweet song I think. (are you noticing a theme in my work yet?). It’s called She Can’t Help. A song who’s lyrics are describing someone. Maybe someone like someone you know. A lonely heart. The verses are speaking of her. Then the chorus does the same by tries to pull an ounce of hope into the situation. And the bridge is the narrator’s plea of involvement. I guess you could call it a ballad. But it’s not a lovey dovey one. It’s a tough one. This song may require a second listening to sink in.

I decided to go back to simplicty recording this week. The gentle acoustic progression that came out made that seem appropriate. At first I tried the usual techniquue of singing directly in the unidircectional mic and guitar direct. But it didn’t really carry the emotion of this one. So i switched to my omini-directional mic just recording a performance. ( I think this is Take 12 or 14)

Also on this week's show is The Inklings "Starlight" - a beautiful almost country like song off of our old "Room On Venus" CD.

"she can't help"

"Every time, that you pray,
Who will pull you through
With the biggest hear, on a string
Rising in the air
Shake you head, at the thought
Of being incomplete.
The traveler's tired, needs a rest.
But don't let her fall asleep.

She can't help but guess,
It comes effortless.
She can't help but see,
Everything, as tragedy.

Wake up cold, in the sheets
No one to warm you usp.
Another fine day, slips away.
Remenisce, endlessly.
For everything it's worth
The ghost moves on, fianlly
Now she can be at peace.

She can't help but guess,
It comes effortless.
She can't help but see,
Everything, as tragedy.
Waking up to find
You've been truly blind.
From far away from here
To the now, that is cyrstal clear

(bridge)
Hard as I try, to read your mind
As hard as I wish, to be by your side
Wanna wrap you up, in arms so tight
Is it ever to late, to try?

Your glass half full, half empty
Wanna pour it down the drain
Refill it up, with something sweet
And sip it cautiously
But bite your tongue, think your thoughts
Think no one wants to hear.
Maybe love's not left, it's just changed
Into a soaring butterfly.

She can't help but guess,
It comes effortless.
She can't help but see,
Everything, as tragedy.
Waking up to find
You've been truly blind.
From far away from here
To the now, that is cyrstal clear."
